David Wilford Clemons, 84, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Wiff passed peacefully, surrounded by all who loved him the most. He was a one-of-a-kind man. Some of his interests included auto working, woodworking, hunting and fishing, watching NASCAR and IU basketball, and spending time with his three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was a mechanic by trade, opening Clemons Auto Service 60 years ago. He could make a motor purr like no other, and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He was also a master carpenter, building countless pole barns, porches, decks, kitchen cabinets, tables, chairs, picnic tables, swing sets, wishing wells, and corn hole boards. If you told him what you wanted, he'd make your vision come true. He also loved to mow his grass, and his yard was always perfectly groomed. He always said, "You can do a lot of thinking on a mower."
He was born on February 7, 1939, in Grayson County, Kentucky, to the late Clevie and Idella (Dennis) Clemons. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Carden.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy Clemons; children, David (Lisa) Clemons, Jr., Kelly Clemons (John) Kingsley of Palmyra, Kathy (Clemons) Sohaney of Georgetown; stepson, John Kennedy of Palmyra; grandchildren, Kristen Clemons (Ryan) Doster of Lanesville, Brian Clemons of Floyds Knobs, Stephanie Wagner (Cody) Bailey of Fairfield, Illinois, Tori Kingsley (Michael) McCarty of Greenville, John David Kingsley of Laconia, and Justin Sohaney of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Luke, Annaliese, and Sarah Doster, Carter Bailey, Landyn Sohaney, and Colton McCarty (on the way); siblings, Bill Clemons, Crawford (Elva) Clemons, Larry (Rowena) Clemons, Jerry (Mary Helen) Clemons, Wanda Whobrey, and Kay Schuler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Milltown, Indiana.
