William (Bill) Joseph O'Toole, Sr, 75 of Louisville, KY, formerly of Chester, New York, passed away on April 21, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Bill was born on November 20, 1946 in Staten Island, New York. He joined the US Army in 1964 and he served his country in Korea. Bill met his wife Margie in Astoria, NY and they were married in October 1967. Bill started his career working for the NY Telephone Company and was a proud member of the Communication Workers of America Local 1101. He served as a Chief Steward working hard for his fellow union members. Bill retired from the phone company and started a second career as a school bus driver for the Monroe-Woodbury School District. Bill had a passion for working with all children, especially special needs kids. He touched many lives by always going above and beyond and was beloved by all of his students and their families. He later took a job working in the Civilian Motor Pool in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Bill was involved in many organizations from the American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Knights of Columbus. Bill was always involved with his children's activities. He was a basketball coach, Webelos Pack Leader and a long time Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 152 in Chester, NY. Bill was the recipient of The Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to the Greater Hudson Valley Boy Scout Council. Bill, also known as Pom Pom or Pompy was also an important father figure to several of his granddaughters. He proudly accompanied them to Father- Daughter dances and all of the other wonderful things that fathers do.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond O'Toole, Sr, mother Mary O'Toole, and his brothers Donald O'Toole, and Eugene O'Toole. He is survived by his wife, Margaret O'Toole, brothers Raymond, Jr (wife Marie), Ronald (wife Sue), and Dennis O'Toole (wife Ellen): his daughter Patricia O'Toole, sons Joseph O'Toole, Sr (wife Susan), William O'Toole, Jr (wife Kim). His grandchildren Cassandra Natale, Christine Natale (husband David Collins), Kayla O'Toole (fiance Michael Van Bemmel), Joseph O'Toole, Jr, Shea O'Toole, Allison O'Toole, William O'Toole, III, one great-granddaughter Lena Natale, many nieces and nephews, and of course his granddogs and grandcats.
The O'Toole family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY for their kindness and loving care to Bill and our family.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Newcomer East Louisville in Louisville, KY. Per the family's wishes no services are being held at this time. A memorial service will be planned for a later date in his longtime hometown of Chester, NY. Donations may be made in Bill's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
