Joseph Raymond Whelan, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022.
He was born on November 29, 1936 in Meade County, Kentucky to Raymond and Martha (Powell) Whelan. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Whelan and his Sister, Carolyn Hess.
Joseph proudly served our country while enlisted in the U.S. Army, retired from Brown and Williams Tobacco Company in 1995 and was a member of Incarnation Catholic Church. He was the Scout Master for Troop 148 from 1984-2005, during that time he had 36 Eagles Scouts. Joseph made numerous trips to Canada for the International Jamboree and to Nashville, TN to the Interstate Jamboree. Joseph also worked with the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby Workshop (Joe's Chop Shop).
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Whelan, children, David Joseph (Karon) Whelan, Judith Gale (Franklin Eugene) Seabolt and Andy H. Staten, grandchildren, William David (Jasmine) Whelan, Joseph E. Whelan, Joseph W. Staten and Andrew Tyler Staten, great grandchildren, Evelyn G. Whelan and Jackson W. Whelan, siblings, William H. (Linda) Whelan, Charles L. Whelan and Linda S. (Kenneth) Carter, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, at Incarnation Catholic Church (2229 Lower Hunters Trace) with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
