Carol McLean Clifford, age 85 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022. Carol was born on October 10, 1934 to the late Barry S. and Edna Johnson McLean in Knoxville, Tennessee. She grew up in Ridgeton, Ontario and Deer Island, Canada. When she was of high school age, her parents moved back to Knoxville, Tennessee where her father pastored a church. She graduated from Beardon High School and attended Johnson University and the University of Tennessee majoring in music. In 1959, she married Robert Edward Trent. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. Robert passed away shortly after that. Carol married her college sweetheart, Dick Clifford in 2009. Carol was a travel consultant for a number of years catering especially to Christian missionaries and church workers. Carol also gave piano lessons to children and served diligently in her church. She served as a Trustee for Johnson University for 25 years and was awarded a special honor for her faithfulness. Carol loved music and enjoyed extending the Kingdom of God wherever and whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and first husband.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Dick Clifford; step-children, Kevin Clifford (Carol) and Christopher Clifford; several grandchildren; a number of cousins in this country and Canada; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 pm on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A celebration of Carol's life will be 11am Friday, February 25th at Hikes Point Christian Church 2601 Hikes Ln, Louisville, KY 40218. Burial will be private.

A second celebration of life service for Carol will be held in the Old Main Chapel of Johnson University, Knoxville, TN at 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, February 27, 2022. The bricks for this building were made by Carol's grandfather, brother of Ashley Johnson, founder of the university, when it was built in 1904,05. Burial will be at a later date at the Johnson family cemetery near the university.
