Joseph "Joe" B. Breckel, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
He was born on April 11, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Lawrence George and Antoinette (Baker) Breckel, Sr. Joe attended St. Xavier High School and graduated in 1952. During this time he was recognized as a "Standout Golfer" and was a member of the High School State Championship Golf Team and part of the 1951 Junior Amateur Golf Team. When he was working as a manager at Dairy Queen, he met his future wife Joan Koch. The couple married on September 13, 1958 in Louisville, KY. He owned and operated Frankfort Glass Company while living in Frankfort, KY. He was a scratch golfer for a majority of his life and achieved 20 hole in one's, two of which occurred after 70 years of age. He also enjoyed playing cards and games. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially around a good meal. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence "Juney" George Breckel, Charles Breckel, Louis Edward Breckel, Sr.; two sisters, Antoinette Hortenbery & Dorothy Lambert; brother-in-laws, Jim Ham, Luke Carver, Joe Zwischenberger, Ernest Meeks, Rex Philips, and Frank Lambert; sister-in-laws, Dorothy "Doddie" Breckel, Eloise Breckel, Patricia Breckel, and Virginia Breckel.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joan Breckel; son, Mike (Gina) Breckel; daughter, Susan (Ron) West; son, Joseph (Sherry) Breckel; daughter, Anne (Ted) Frey; 6 grandchildren, Emily (Steve) McClenny, Ellen (Austin) Jones, Parker Frey, Andrew Frey, Allison Breckel, and Helen Breckel; great grandchildren, Riley McClenny, Harper McClenny, Sutton McClenny, Greyson Jones, and Colton Jones; sisters, Mary Catherine (Ham) Carver; Marilyn Meeks, Barbara Zwischenberger, Joan (Don) Herp, Paula Phillips; brother, Bernie Breckel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
