Mr. Hosea Lee Willis, Sr., 77, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Hosea was born March 31, 1943, in Hardeman County, Tennessee. By his own volition, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior during service at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ in Bolivar, Tennessee. Moreover, he was educated in Hardeman County Public Schools, graduating from Bolivar Industrial High School in 1961.
He continued his education with studies at Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State University (now Tennessee State University) in Nashville. Eventually, he relocated to Louisville, making it his permanent home, and becoming a longtime attendee of New Zion Baptist Church.
Hosea could always find the humor in any situation and will be remembered by his family and friends for bringing them laughter and creating many fond memories.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. Teymow & Mrs. Virgie Willis; first wife, Dorothy "Dolly Mae" Murphy Willis; second wife, Mable Jones Willis; and two brothers, Slater Willis, and Temore Willis, Jr.
Hosea is survived by his children, Ms. Michele "Regina" L. Canady; Ms. Angela McBride, Mr. Hosea (Yvette) Willis, Jr., and Mrs. Contina (Cedric) Lee; siblings, Mrs. Ruthie Hawkins; and Mrs. Mary Griffin; grandchildren, Cedric (Taylor) A. Lee, Jr., Basia Lee, Brandon Canady, Braxton Canady, Cameron Willis, and Kennedy Willis,; great granddaughter, Haleigh E. Jones-Canady; nieces, Judith Cynthia Marie Murphy Lake and Monica Willis; nephews, Gary Willis, Lynn Willis, and Arthur Hawkins, Jr.; great-nieces, Jada Willis, Nakia Willis, and Danielle Lake; great-nephew, Daniel Lake; and devoted companion, Ms. Sandra Shumake-Eugene, and the Shumake Family; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends who will always cherish loving memories of Hosea in their hearts.
A memorial gathering will be Monday, December 27, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, from 11am-12pm with a celebration of Hosea's life beginning at 12pm.
