James Anthony "Tony" Mattingly, 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. Tony was a loving and devoted husband, step-father, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a die hard UK fan and never missed a game. He always loved spending time with his family because family was over everything. He was a cook in the Air Force. He loved cooking and grilling out with his family. Tony will truly be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
He was born on February 22, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky to Clement and Mary (Clark) Mattingly. He is preceded in death by his father, Clement Eugene Mattingly, mother, Mary Catherine Mattingly, step-sons, James P. Bartley, Jr. and Thomas L. Bartley, step-granddaughter, Natosha Rhyne, siblings, Patsy Slaughter, Nancy Payne, Donnie Mattingly, and Michael G. Mattingly.
Tony is survived by his loving Wife of 39 years, Catherine J. Mattingly; step-children, Debbie Taylor, Birdie Maria Pinales, Joseph Bartley, and Michael (Kathy) Bartley; 12 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Anna Richardson, Martha Marler, Sharon Wilson, and Richard L. Mattingly. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish his memory forever.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Graveside Service will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
