Janet Douglas Bloom, age 70, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, June 6th, 2021 at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville. Jan was born August 24, 1950, in Louisville, to Billy and Martha Douglas. She grew up in Anchorage, KY, and enjoyed numerous clubs and activities, including Pony Club. She graduated Transylvania University in 1972 and pursued graduate studies at The University of Kentucky. She enjoyed a long career in Real Estate before she married her best friend, Stephen Bloom, on June 28, 2003. Together they ran a successful business in the equine industry.
Mrs. Bloom enjoyed traveling, immersing herself in the culture and experiencing their cuisine. In her spare time she would needlepoint gifts for friends and family. A perpetual learner, she enjoyed studying history, with particular interest in the American Revolution. She had the ability to make friends everywhere she went and had a deep appreciation of the arts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Martha Douglas, and her husband, Stephen Bloom. She leaves behind children, Katie Faris of Louisville, KY, and Ben Johnston of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Isabella and Abby; siblings, Barb Snider (Steve) of Franklin, KY, and Dave Douglas (Ann) of Louisville, KY; and numerous friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28 from 4pm to 6pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243) with a memorial service at 6pm. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, MA.
