Dereward Wheat King

Dereward Wheat King, 96, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 3, 2021. He was a member at Young Chapel AME Church. Dereward graduated from Central High School and received his Bacholor's degree in Business Management from the University of Louisville. He was an Army veteran and retired from the VA Hospital after 45 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Napoleon and Grace King; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Dereward is survived by his wife, Shirley King; daughter, Dianne King; brothers, Rev. Arthur Peter (Ethel) King and Everett (Pauline) King and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY from 11am-1pm with a celebration of Dereward's life.

Dereward will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY.
