John Edwin Potts, Jr.

John Edwin Potts Jr., 67, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

He was born on August 7, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky to John and Florence (DeSpain) Potts. John was a 1971 graduate of Durrett High School. He was also a graduate of Sullivan College. John received the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel on April 12, 1995. John was a talented musician, playing guitar and leading worship at Churchman Chapel, and played bass, helping with worship at Emmanuel Harvester, Evangel Christian, and Okolona Christian Church. He was a skilled carpenter from an early age and retired after 20 years from JCPS as a Construction Inspector. John enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was married for 50 years to the love of his life, Mary Sue Potts. John was a wonderful father, grandfather, and foster dad, he loved spending time with his family. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Edwin Potts, Sr.; mother, Florence Marie Potts; sisters, Mary and Sharon.

John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Sue (Beam) Potts; daughter, Tamara Paulson (James); son, John Potts, III (Audra); grandchildren, Avery, Ayden, Caitlyn, Adyson, Eleanore, and Lillian; sisters, Betty Krekel (Ken), Ann Robins, Florence Carpenter, Cathy Brock, Nancy O'Donell (Mark), and Ellen Potts; brother, Conrad Potts (Sendy); and a host of nieces, nephews, and many loving in-laws.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Okolona Christian Church (10801 Faithful Way, Louisville, KY 40229). The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 1:00 pm until the service time.
