Samuel Thomas Patterson

July 7, 1940 — February 9, 2021

Samuel Thomas Patterson, 80, of New Albany, Indiana, passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Tom, born in Louisville, Kentucky, and his loving surviving spouse of 58 years, Nancy (Roggenkamp), a graduate from Georgetown High School, made New Albany home for their entire married life.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Patterson; father, Willard Patterson; and sister, Anita Hoagland. He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Watson (Kenneth) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; sister, Deborah Jaggers (Bill) of Louisville, Kentucky; son, Michael Patterson (Jana) of Augusta, Georgia; daughter, Kimberly Rosado (Rico) of Sellersburg, Indiana; son, Kevin Patterson (Tami) of Lanesville, Indiana; grandchildren, Meagan Hinner (Craig), Mandi Logsdon (Bradley), Anna Oldham (Jarret), Tori Martin, and Erin Patterson; and great-grandchild, Lily Logsdon.

Tom will be remembered as a loving husband and dedicated father to his family. He began working with Philip Morris in 1963 where he worked as a Master Machinist and was a member of the Machinist Union until his retirement in 1995. He was a graduate of duPont Manual High School in 1958. Tom will always be remembered for his love of fireworks and the giant displays on the 4th of July (aka: Thunder over Patterson's). He loved coaching his kids and grandkids in sports (especially basketball and baseball) and greatly enjoyed watching his grandkids shine in plays, concerts, and sporting events. He was also a big fan of UK basketball and football. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church and the Trendsetters Sunday School Class. He greatly appreciated the prayers, cards, and visits he received from his church family who have been supportive throughout the years.

Tom will be remembered at a private Memorial Service to be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions and will be laid to rest at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens (both in New Albany, Indiana). A Celebration of Life event will be planned for July 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom's memory can be sent directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
