Rosemary Stevens

December 17, 1938 — November 3, 2020

Rosemary Stevens' journey in this life began on December 17, 1938 when she was born to George Stevens and Bessie Stevens Thomas in Louisville, KY. She was the elder of one brother. Rosemary transitioned into perfect peace on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

She was educated at Louisville Central High School and Nursing School at the old St. Anthony Hospital where she worked until her retirement after 25 years of service. She married, and is the mother of three children, Angela, Richard and Patricia.

Rosemary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Emmanuel on April 6, 1947 by the late Dr. M. M. D. Perdue. She was an active and loyal member, utilizing her spiritual gifts. Her most visible ministry was on her post as an usher. Rosemary was a stalwart usher, committed to serving at any service or event. She also served as church hostess, a teacher of the Men & Women's Bible Class, member of the Missionary Society. She worked many years with Emmanuel's Dawn Sunday School, was an organizer and a former worker in the EBC Clothes Closet and loved participating in Emmanuel's plays and productions. She was recognized in 2011 as Emmanuel's Female of the year.

Her church was of family as well as spiritual significance for Rosemary. As a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, she would transport her mother and aunt to every worship and church activity in their later years as well as instrumental in her great-grandchildren's attendance encouraging and ensuring their participation. It was not unusual for any of the five generations to be represented.

Rosemary is described by family and friends as gentle, reserved and soft-spoken, though firm in sharing her ideas and opinions. She was loved by her Emmanuel Church family and by all who knew her.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her father, George Stevens and brother Jerry Stevens.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Angela Grigsby Abernathy, Richard Glen Grigsby and Patricia Kimbley; her beloved mother, Bessie Thomas; grandchildren, Dayo Watkins, Antonio Tiofil, Darryl Grigsby, John Weaver, Patrice Weaver, Richard Glen Wilson, Richard Grigsby, Timothy Grigsby and Richard Barbour; twenty-five great-children; two nieces and one nephew.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
