Fred Sowder

February 3, 1936 — April 25, 2019

Fred Sowder, age 83 of Louisville, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019. Fred retired from food sales with the Sell Company, was a Mason and an avid UofK fan. He was a frequent visitor at Dairy Queen every morning for breakfast. Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Bess; his brother, Ronnie Sowder, Sr.; and his parents, Fred Sowder, Sr. and Eliza Bussell Sowder; and also his four legged companion, T.J.

Fred leaves to cherish his memory his loving companion of 28 years, Shirley Schmitt; step-children, Jeff Schmitt (Carol) and Tracy Souder (Jon); nieces, Kim Bandurske (Greg) and Sonnie Faye Sowder; nephew, Ronnie Sowder (Jill); step-granddaughter, Katlin Thurston (Ben); sister-in-law, Debbie August (Ed); and a host of family and friends.

A gathering to celebrate Fred's life will be 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY. 40243. Private burial will be in Middletown Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Kentucky Humane Society.
