William Henry Jones Iii

William Henry Jones III, 85, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018. He was a United States Air Force/Army veteran and member of both the VFW Post 1693 Hobart Beach and American Legion Post 28 Bonnie Sloan. William also belonged to the Mason Hall #35 in Detroit, Michigan, and First Baptist Church in New Albany.

He was born on July 28, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late William, Jr., and Cordelia (Robinson) Jones. William was also preceded in death by his grandson, William Jones, Jr.; and sister, Dolphine Baily.

William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (DeJarnette) Jones; children, Teresa Rutland (Jesse), William David Jones, Darrell Jones, and John F. Jones (Cora); sisters, Christine Howard and Dorothy Jordan; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 14 foster grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 12:00 p.m. at the church. His funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Howard Chapel Baptist Church (1715 East Market Street, New Albany). Burial with military honors will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
