Irene Elizabeth (Barr) Hammer

Irene Elizabeth (Barr) Hammer, 88, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed on Monday evening, September 3, 2018. She was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs and loved playing cards, especially Euchre. Irene loved working in her gardens, tending to her flowers, doing needle work, and making handmade gifts and cooking for her family.

She was born on April 13, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Orville, Sr., and Edith M. (O'Bryan) Barr. Along with her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Barney Hammer; and sister, Mildred Herbst.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Tucker (Tony), Cheryl Elder (Walt), and Joan Conrad (Steve); son, E. Wayne Hammer (Kelly); 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Orville Barr, Jr.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018, and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Chapel (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
