On Thursday July 19th 2018 at 4:30 am, Phillip Anthony Davenport, American explorer and beloved father and grandfather, was called to his eternal reward by his wife Mary Helen at the age of 74. He will join his brother Butch, mother Sarah Rose, and father Clarence (Chuck) Davenport, and is survived by his brother Ronnie Davenport.
Phillip is no doubt preparing surprises and new stories for his surviving children; Amanda (Mandi) Davenport, Megan (Megi) Hutzel, and Anthony (Tony) Davenport, as well as his grandchildren Michael Smilowska, Isabel and Cassandra Hutzel. Phillip's loving and selfless nature were a constant conversation topic among all who knew him. He dedicated himself to his family and friends and in doing so made the job of father, grandfather, and best friend appear effortless with his boundless generosity. Phil, as his friends knew him, was always positive and quick with a joke or tale to entertain, leaving anyone he spoke with smiling by the end of the encounter.
Phil lived his life in such a way that he could smile in the end having lived a good and honest life, having taught those around him to smile more. Phil's work ethic was a shining example to all who had the pleasure of working with him over his more than 18 year career working for Orlando International Airport and then, upon retirement for the Louisville International Airport. On the job Phil was considered an expert and reliable friend by both the leadership above him and his subordinates that worked with him.
Phil would often be seen out on the town with his closest confidant and best friend Sue Miller-Graham sharing beers and pizza at Wick's or Old Chicago pizza. The laughter and joy they shared defined a friendship Phil cherished greatly. While Phil may no longer appear in our homes, the legend of his exploits and humor will continue to grow with each telling for generations to come, most likely in ways he was too humble to embellish upon.
In accordance with Phil's wishes, his body will be cremated and interred with his wife Mary Helen's ashes privately.
A celebration of his stories, the joys he embraced, and the evolution he inspired in others will be held at Phil's house at 2708 Sharon Way in Louisville 40220 beginning at 3 pm with a service to start at 6:00pm on Saturday, July 21st.
