JAMES EDWARD JONES OF LOUISVILLE, KY, age 87, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Seneca Place Nursing Home.
He was on born July 4, 1930 to parents Rhoda Marie Smith Davis and Edward Jones and was raised in South Louisville. Along with his family members he became a member of N street Missionary Baptist Church. While serving in the US Army he enjoyed Golden Glove boxing.
In 1955 he was appointed to the Louisville Police Department and served 21 years as both a patrolmen and detective. He loved his career as a police officer, enjoyed watching baseball and playing on a bowling league. December 23, 1978 he married Beatrice Browder.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Beatrice Jones; daughter, Tonya Smith; 5 step-children Bunchie, Landy, Nat, Pat, and Jon; 5 grandchildren, Durrell Bumphus, Dominique Bumphus, Janae Bumphus, Dontay Bumphus, Demetrius Jones; sisters, Margretta Deal, Doris Baniels, Libby Bell; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, Southwest Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272), with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
