Gordon R. Cameron, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on April 16, 2018.
He was born on April 27, 1925 in Montreal, Canada to the late Gordon and Lillian (McBride) Cameron. He was reared in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from Denby High School in 1943, and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1968.
Gordon proudly served in many capacities. He was a retired Louisville Firefighter after 20 years of service and also retired from the Jefferson County Public School System as a teacher after 20 years.
He was a proud service man with the United States Marines Corp in World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Gordon recently had the honor of traveling with the Honor Flight Bluegrass to see the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC.
Gordon was a charter member of St. Martha Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Highland Post. Gordon married Mary Bourke (Wagner) Cameron on April 17, 1948, a love which lasted 70 years.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his four year old son, Robert, infant granddaughter Sarah and sister Audrey.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Mary Bourke (Wagner) Cameron; sons: George, Ross (Lisa), and Vincent Cameron, daughters: Mary Virginia (Larry) Joseph, Bridget (Max) Goldsmith, Alice (Dave) Roth, Lillian Lynch, and Rita Cameron. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Eric, Lindsay, Elaine, Grace, David III, Victoria, Preston, Virginia, Dennis and many great-grandchildren.
Gordon was an avid fisherman, woodworker and enjoyed many trips with Toby Tours. And if all were to say one thing about Gordon was he made you smile with his infectious laugh.
He will be truly missed.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Martha Catholic Church (2825 Klondike Lane Louisville, KY 40218) with Mass to follow at 11:00am and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
