Emma Louise Lackey, 94, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2018 and was born in Jeffersonville, IN on February 4, 1924 to the late Eva Lee Spillman and James Henry Lackey. She was the youngest of 8 children. Emma graduated from Taylor High School, Jeffersonville, IN in 1942 and then moved to Buffalo, NY. She gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Denise Best in 1957 and moved to Louisville, KY. Emma was a devoted member of Portland Memorial Baptist Church and was the treasurer and member of The River City Travelers Club. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her girlfriends and was an avid UofL fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Mary, Dora, Laura and Matilda; 3 brothers, Hallous, James and Louis and grandson, DaJuan R. Best, Jr.
Emma leaves fond memories for her daughter, Denise Best; 2 grandchildren, DaJuan Best and Keondra Best; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; nieces; nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Monday, March 5, 2018, at Portland Memorial Baptist Church, 3802 W. Market Street, Louisville, KY from 11am-1pm with a celebration of Emma's life beginning at 1pm.
Burial will follow at Green Meadows Cemetery, 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, KY.
