Sgt. Karen R. Counsil; born August 30, 1962, passed away in her sleep after battling a long line of diseases on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Originally from Cogan Station, PA; Karen joined the army shortly after turning 18 and served her country for 16 years with her best friend, Jackie Snyder before retiring as a disabled veteran.
She proceeds in her death leaving behind her parents, Lester and Betsey Kyle; brother Lester II and his wife Linda, their children Lester III and Brittany; step-son; Jason and his wife Shawna; daughter Natasha Counsil and her husband David Epperson; son Jeffrey Counsil Jr. and his wife Emily Weber, and her nine grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner, Kaylee, Emily, Zoe, Nevaeh, Jeffrey III, Adalynn and Dalton.
She was an active member of Fairmount Baptist Church for many years before moving to Elizabethtown, KY with her son. She enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in many community activities with her church. She also was an active member of The Roost, where she recovered herself from alcoholism and helped many others as their sponsor.
