Zoila Rosa Morales-Sotolongo, age 81 of Louisville, formerly of Cuba, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2017. Zoila Rosa Morales Sotolongo was born in Matanzas, Cuba in 1935. She was the eldest daughter of ten children of the late Pedro Nodarzo Morales Simon, her father, and Rosa Maria Sotolongo Hernandez, her mother. She graduated from high school in Amarilla, Matanzas and was an accomplished homemaker. Zoila lived most of her life in Havana, Cuba but spent her last years in Louisville, Kentucky. She is survived by her daughters, Dalia, and Lily, and her grandchildren, Alex, Maylyn, Marelis, and David. Zoila passed away on January 25th, 2017 in Louisville, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Neri Silvestre Prado, by her second daughter, Lilliam Lucia Silvestre, and by her youngest daughter, Kety.
Zoila will be remembered as "Abuela", "Zoili", "Mami", "Hermana", or by our term of endearment, "Nene Traviesa". As the eldest of ten children, she was strict and demanding, yet loving and sweet. We all have different memories of Abuela. For some, she was the friendly lady who shared her candy at the daycare she attended in the last year of her life. She would assign you a name when she could not remember it and then follow it with a kiss. For others, she was the austere person who never complained about pain, even on days when she could not get out of her bed. Most would remember her as the headstrong, stubborn lady who would never do what she was told. Regardless of the memories we have kept, we all love her dearly!
We know that, through time, we will learn to cope with the pain and the emptiness that we feel with her absence. But as a good friend of mine said to me once, we should all "mourn the loss and treasure the memories".
Abuela, we love you and will always. Rest in peace. We hope to see you again someday.
