Carol Ann Mueller, age 66, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on December 1, 2016. She was born on August 25, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late John and Irma McIntyre. Carol graduated from Angela Merici High School in 1968 and later in life earned a Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University Southeast. She made an impact across many organizations, including being co-owner and farm manager of Owen Produce, to succeeding in sales for furniture and contractor companies, to designing and selling jewelry.
Carol's greatest professional impact, however, was in her work as a passionate advocate for those with developmental disabilities. As a lobbyist for the Council on Mental Retardation, she worked to impact Kentucky legislation and funding to benefit the rights and services available to some of our most fragile citizens. She petitioned for grants for programs to support this cohort, and one of her most recognized grant projects was establishing the Weber Gallery and curating several art shows that showcased art designed to open minds to the capabilities of the disabled and the intersection with our every day perspective of art. This work earned a grant from the National Council of the Arts. Her tireless work to highlight the needs of the more disabled members of our society and her collaboration across the private and public sector resulted in the funding and building of Bingham Gardens, a community home for the severely disabled.
Carol is survived by her husband of 12 years, Daniel Mueller; her children, Nikki Bonifer (Dennis), Shelley Ramsey (Stanley), Charlie Owen (Jennifer); his children, Amanda Kaufman (Billy), John Mueller (Ericka), Jayme Mueller; and many loving grandchildren; siblings, Janet McIntyre, Pat McIntyre (Mindy), Donna McIntyre and Diane Harris (Danny); and her favorite cat, Frankie. Some of her deepest joys in life were from spending time with her family; the betterment of her family was the source of her greatest drive and ambition. She had a wide variety of passions, with a deep appreciation for nature and gardening. She loved to experience art and music, but found beauty in the mundane as well the extraordinary,
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243.)
