William Alexander Knox

William Alexander Knox died on Friday, November 11, 2016, as he had lived, with dignity, grace, and humor, wrapped in the love of his extended family. Bill was, by day, the purchasing agent for Stauffer Chemical Company. After a quick dash home and dinner with the family, he switched gears to become the sage and scourge of the Sears Automotive Store. Papa, as he was known once the grandchildren came along, helped hold together a close extended family with his strength, integrity, and common sense. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Esther Knox; his sister, Margaret Elizabeth Knox; his brother, Robert Knox; and his beloved wife and life partner Betty Lee Birk Knox. He is survived by daughters Susan Shallers of Salida, Colorado, Donna Robinson (Bill), Linda Knox-Roederer (John Kunkle), Andrea Knox-Kelecy (Pat) of Floyd County, Indiana, and Laurie Knox (Andy Aoki) of Knoxville, Tennessee; by his grandchildren, Elizabeth Shallers-Wagner (Gregor) of Garlipp, Germany, Lexie Estes (John) of Brownsburg, Indiana, Danielle Biggs-Clay (Cory) of Hoover, Alabama, Ian Roederer (Renee) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Lindsey Roederer of Louisville, Kentucky, Katya and Anton Alexander van den Berg of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Christopher, Matthew William, and Anna Kelecy of Floyd County, Indiana; and by his great-grandchildren Quinn and Andra Wagner, Gabriel and Morgan Estes, Addison and Connor Clay, and Ember Humphreys; as well as long-time friends Samuel Shallers, Alan Roederer, and Lora Hosier. His many loving nieces and nephews also mourn the loss of their dear "Uncle Bill."

We know how proud he was of all of us, and we are trying to live up to that, in all our many ways. Thank you, Papa. We love you.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). A Memorial Service will be held at St. Marks United Church of Christ (222 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. There will be additional visitation on Wednesday from 5:30 until time of service.
