Melba Kay Jones, 67, was greeted by the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany where she served as a sacristan and greeter. She loved coming from a big family. Melba especially enjoyed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and taking trips to the "boat." A person would be very lucky to call Melba a friend.
She worked for Auto Wheel & Rim for 39 years and retired from SWH Supply after 7 years of service. There are simply not enough words to describe all the wonderful things about Melba.
She was born on September 6, 1949 in New Albany to the late Ed and Nettie (Schmidt) Jones. Melba was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Alice Jones, Peggy Banet; and brother-in-law, Paul Banet.
Melba is survived by her sisters, Terri Jones, Nancy (Mike) Russell; brothers, Bill (Diana), Paul (Sharon), John (Diana) Jones; nieces and nephews, Dana (Dennis) Fisher, Andy (Cortni) Russell, Phil Banet, Steve Banet, Butch Russell, Tina (Eric) Thomas, Melanie (Matt) Murphy, Adam Jones, Bradley (Kelly) Jones, Elizabeth (Nathan) Love, Rachael Jones, Ryan Jones, Rebekah (Brennan) Banet, Naomi Jones, Lydia Jones; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany) and after 9 AM on Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
Contributions in Melba's memory may be made to the Mass of the Air (508 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207) or to Holy Family Catholic Church.
