Earl Mason Gary, Jr., 73, of Clarksville, Indiana, left this world on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home in New Albany, IN. He was born on January 4, 1943 to the late Earl Mason Gary, Sr. & Elsa (Baumgarten) Gary in Louisville, KY. Mason was an expert in all areas of automobiles. It was said he could identify the type of car going down LaGrange Road at the age of 3. He graduated from Waggener High in Louisville in 1961 and attended Bible college at Campbellsville, KY. He said he wanted to save lives either as a minister or an auto mechanic, and his love of cars won out. He drove Figure 8 race cars from the age of 16 until he was 40. He was an ASE Certified Mechanic working at various garages, finally owning Auto Critic, an inspection service, the last 8 years before retiring. Mason was an avid NASCAR collector and was considered the expert in that field by many.
Mason is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marjorie (Henderson) Gary; son, Joel Gary (Katrina); daughters, Donna Seibert (Mike), Cynthia Gary; step daughters, LaDonna Tully (John), Cindy Henry; step son, Michael Gatton (Julie); grandchildren, Shanna, Alayna, & Cooper Gary, Travis Seibert, Kyle & Damon Tully, Karmen & Bryce Henry, Alexandria, Leanna & Shane Gatton; and great granddaughter, Raelee Tully.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
