Eugene Raymond Dummer

Eugene Raymond Dummer, 78, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father, with his beloved family by his side on Thursday, August 4, 2016.

Gene and his wife, Barbara, along with their lifelong friends Frank and Jan Neumann, established Louisville's Valu Market food stores in 1978. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church, where he faithfully served 5 years on the Pastoral Care Ministries for nursing home residents.

Gene was born on August 30, 1937 in Lacrosse, Wisconsin to the late Harold Raymond and Mabel Mary Agnes (Birkel) Dummer. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Elaine (Knutson) Dummer.

Gene leaves to cherish his memory, his three daughters; Debra (John) Jordan, Kimberly (Tom) Fox, Kara (Chris) Reilly, six grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Nett, Erica (Brandon) Johnson, Nichole Fox, Jacob Fox, Tanner Reilly and Taylor Reilly, three great grandchildren, Hudson Nett, Abram Johnson and Jordan Johnson and one more baby Johnson on the way in December.

He will forever be remembered for his caring and generous spirit, his passion for hunting and fishing, his devotion to his family and friends, and his faith in his Heavenly Father.

A celebration of his life will be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral ceremony at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Southeast Christian Church (920 Blankenbaker Parkway, Louisville, Kentucky, 40243) with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
