Martha "Betty" (Book) Popp, 78, of Memphis, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016. She was a devout Catholic and long-time member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church. She was an employee at the Galt House in Louisville for over 40 years. Betty could easily be described as thrifty and her home was always full of hospitality. She enjoyed playing euchre as well as BUNCO, but the most important thing to Betty was her family.
She was born on February 19, 1938 in Louisville to the late Joseph and Lillie (Hunt) Book. Betty was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Popp; granddaughter, Alexandra Popp; sisters, Sr. Josepha Book O.S.B., Ann Hoeler, Loretta Miller, Irene Peters; and brothers, Ambrose and Raymond Book.
Martha is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Robert Popp; children, David Popp (Pam), Cheryl Freiberger (Jim), Karen Schueler (Barry), Gary Popp (Julie), and Brenda Robertson (Patrick); daughter-in-law, Patty Popp; siblings, Alma Wells, Paul Book; sister-in-law, Esther Book; 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Campus, 2605 St. Joe Rd. W., Sellersburg) with burial to follow at the cemetery.
